A descriptive study of the results obtained in the surgical elective treatment of 107 patients with duodenal peptic ulcer from 1985 to 1995 was conducted. Highly selective vagatomy and highly selective anterior vagotomy with posterior truncal vagotomy were used as surgical procedures in 56 and 51 patients, respectively. The most frequent surgical indication was the lack of medical response in 90.7 % of the cases. The highly selective anterior vagotomy with posterior truncal vagotomy presented the shortest surgical time and postoperative stay. 32.7 % of the patients had postoperative complications. Dysphagia (14 %) and diarrheas (17 %) were the most frequent. Relapses were observed in 4.6 % of the cases. Good resutls were obtained according to Visick's classification in 92.6 % of the patients and there was no postoperative mortality.
