Abstract
SUAREZ PEREZ, Juana Caridad and LA ROSA CHIBAS, Teresa. Use of 5-fluoracil in the trabeculectomy and deep perforating sclerotomy during 5 years. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2004, vol.33, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.
The effect of the topical application of 5-fluoracil in filtrating surgery of simple chronic open angle glaucoma , as well as the complications derived from the use of this drug, were studied aimed at improving the filtration of aqueous humor and maintaining the filtration bulla. 5-fluoracil was used in 1 258 eyes of 629 patients with simple chronic open angle glaucoma in a sole subconjunctival application during trabeculectomy and deep perforating sclerectomy at a concentration of 0.5 mg/mL for 3 and 5 minutes. The follow-up took place at one month, 3 months and anually for 5 years. Control of the intraocular pressure was attained in a total of 1 123 eyes of 1258 treated patients, which supposes a success of 89 %. The most common complication was the non compensation of the intraocular pressure in 10.8 % of the patients that required drug therapy.
