Abstract

The massive musculoskeletal injuries caused by the action of the expansive wave are severe events for the patient receiving them and difficult for the physician treating them. Aspects on the physiopathology of the injuries caused by the expansive wave and some elements that should characterize the surgeon giving attention to the severely injured, are dealth with. It was concluded that the attention to the complex injured requires a good organization, an efficient prehospital care to start resuscitation, and that the assistant surgeon should have a high level of competence and performance.
