Abstract
GONZALEZ SOTOLONGO, Odalys et al. Value of insulin resistance in patients carriers of metabolic syndrome. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2005, vol.34, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.
25 patients carriers of metabolic syndrome were studied according to the criteria of ATP III. Different clinical and humoral parameters (arterial blood pressure, waist and hip circumference, glycaemia, cholesterol, triglycerides, HDLc, LDLc and uric acid) were evaluated. Insulin resistance was determined by the HOMA method. It was proved that IR existed in 100 % of the cases. It was established a significant correlation between the abdominal circumference (AC) and hypertriglyceridemia with the IR degree (r: 0.67 and 0.58, respecitvely), but it was not possible to do so with the figures of glycaemia, arterial blood pressure and HDL. The study showed that the higher the IR degree, the greater the abdominal circumference, the body mass index and the number of criteria to define the syndrome.
