Abstract

LLUIS RAMOS, Guido Emilio; LLIBRE RODRIGUEZ, Juan de Jesús; SAMPER NOA, Juan A.  and  LAUCERIQUE PARDO, Tania. Proposal of geriatric evaluation to be applied by the health care centers of the Revolutionary Armed Forces. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2005, vol.34, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.

A proposal of geriatric evaluation to be used in the Revolutionary Armed Forces due to the lack of a uniform methodology for the older adult care, is presented. It is suggested the application of the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment to the retired officers from the Revolutionary Armed Forces and to the members of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution that receive medical attention in our health institutions. This assessment includes: biomedical evaluation (it refers to the medical history, nutritional assessment, Tinetti's test and a detailed ophthalmological and auditive examination), psychological evaluation (dementia and depression should be stressed according to the criteria of MHD-IV, with the support of the mini-examination of the mental status and of the scale of geriatric depression, respectively), social evaluation (it includes information about the socioeconomic and family situation, housing conditions and support recieved), and the functional evaluation (it explores the capacity for carrying out daily activities by the indexes of Karl, Lawton and of practical performance).

Keywords : Comprehensive geriatric assessment; older adult; functional state.
