Abstract

CALZADILLA MOREIRA, Vladimir et al. Some considerations on the antimicrobial therapy under conditions of war and disasters. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2005, vol.34, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.

A review of the essential aspects that characterize the prophylactic use of antimicrobial therapy during the war conflicts of the history of mankind is made. It is evidenced that the prevention of the infection acquires a relevant importance when there is a great number of injured soldiers. The delay in the administration of antibiotics and of the surgical procedure are the most significant factors associated with the development of infections. The prophylactic use of antibiotics is effective only when it is administered next to the battle field, waiting for the surgical debridement . It should be administered in the postoperative for a few days. The utilization of one drug or another obeys to pharmacological or economic criteria. . The administration by endovenous route is the election for these contingencies. Once the infection is established, the procedures and antimicrobial strategies are assumed in the hospital setting with the same characteristics as in times of peace, in spite of being subjected to numerous restrictive factors.
