Abstract

RODRIGUEZ COLLAR, Tomás Lázaro. Management of renal contusion. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2005, vol.34, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.

The medical histories of 62 patients that were admitted with diagnosis of renal contusion at “Dr. Carlos J. Finlay” Central Military Hospital from January 1998 to December 2002, were reviewed aimed at knowing general aspects of the morbidity and management of these patients. The lesion was more frequent among men aged 20-40. The microscopic heamturia was the predominant sign and traffic accidents were the main causal agent. The ultrasound proved to be useful for the diagnosis and evolution of this renal injury. It was demonstrated that the admission of these patients is unnecessary when the vital signs are normal, the hematuria is microscopic and there are 2 ultrasonographic studies that evidence no renal damage with 6 hours of difference one from the other. The use of prophylactic antibiotics in these patients is not justified. An algorithm is proposed for the management of close renal traumatism and recommendations are also made.

Keywords : Kidney; close traumatism; diagnosis; treatment.
