Abstract

NODARSE HERNANDEZ, Rafael. In vitro susceptibility of isolated Enterococcus strains to vancomycin. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2005, vol.34, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.

50 Enterococcus strains isolated at “Luis Díaz Soto” Institute of Military Medicine from November 2001 to April 2002 were identified up to the species category and their in vitro susceptibility to vancomicine, was studied. This research was aimed at knowing the possible appearance of strains resistant to this antibiotic, considered as the last option against Enterococcus in our environment. The susceptibility was studied by the methods of diffusion and dilution in agar, for which an Enterococcus growth curve was constructed to standardize the initial inoculum . Enterococcus faecalis was the most identified species (78 %). No resistance to vancomycin was detected. All the studied Enterococcus proved to be highly sensitive to this antibiotic.

Keywords : Enterococcus; antibiotic resistance; vancomycin; antimicrobial susceptibility.
