DE LA PAZ NARANJO, José; MACEIRA CUBILES, María Acelia; CORRAL SALVADO, Aida  and  GONZALEZ CAMPOS, Carlos. Antiparasitic activity of a Mentha piperita Linn. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2006, vol.35, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3046.

With the objective of verifying that Mentha piperita Linn has antiparasitic effect, decoction of leaves was assessed. The biological model was California red earthworm and the doses were 0,475; 0,950 and 1,900 g/dL. A negative control group (distilled water) and a positive control group (2 % piperazine solution) were set. The evaluation in Petri plate was continuously performed for 8 hours. The measured variable was survival time in minutes. The results showed that Mentha piperita Linn leaves decoction has vermifugal effect depending on dosing. The maximum dose was more potent than the drug of reference used (2 % piperazine). The level of significance was set at p£ 0,05.

Keywords : Mentha piperita Linn; mint balm; antiparasitic; medicinal plants.
