Abstract

BAYON SOSA, Martha. Ruy Mauro Marini: His Revolutionary Thinking for the 21st Century. Econ. y Desarrollo [online]. 2017, vol.158, n.1, pp. 41-57. ISSN 0252-8584.

At the beginning of the 21st century, revolutionary movements in Latin America were very dynamic. However, there are sure signs of an intense right-wing counteroffensive at present. In view of this situation, tactics and strategies in struggle have to be reconsidered and changed, adopting a self-critical stance. It is imperative that most influential left-wing thinkers play a significant role again. Among them is the Brazilian Intellectual Ruy Mauro Marini who was a true believer in Marxism, and has a lot to contribute to revolutionary theory. Marini defended the idea of an obligatory link between national independence and socialism, and between revolutionary intelligentsia and people. He also introduced the concepts of super-exploitation (as a factor counteracting the falling rate of profit) and sub-imperialism (as an expression of the native bourgeoisie's subordination to and complicity with foreign capital), recreated in the reality of the situation in Latin America from the application of Marxist theory.

Keywords : capitalism; dependence; Marini; socialism; sub-imperialism; super-exploitation.
