This article focuses on the issue of fiscal sustainability and its importance in Cuba's current program of economic transformations. After a quick review of the international debate on the subject, it analyzes the fiscal outlook in Cuba in the period from 1990 to 2018, highlighting the high degree of fiscal vulnerability that the Cuban economy suffers today and the tensions that it will have to face in the coming years. In the last session, the impact of monetary unification on the fiscal outlook is discussed. It is concluded that fiscal sustainability will be key in the coming years. To this end, the authorities will have to improve macroeconomic management, but also transform the institutional and economic contexts to overcome the current situation of economic stagnation and fiscal vulnerability.
