In this paper, there is a general assessment about the use of different formulations based on b glucan in cattle and poultry. The formulations were evaluated; b 1-3 linear glucan particulate (b 1-3GPL), b1-3/1-6 D glucan and b-glucan with different purification degrees (1.8% and 70%) combined with ascorbyl-2 -polyphosphate. The evaluation criteria varied, but all of them showed the favorable impact of formulations on immune response indicators, the response to experimental challenges and production and health indicators. b 1-3 gpl stimulated the activity of phagocytic cells in cattle and reduced the development of pneumonic processes in calves and heifers. b 1-3 glucan intramammary infusion increased the expression of MHC II. The b-glucan derived from yeast cell wall: 1.8-2% + ascorbic acid caused increase of peripheral mononuclear cells. In chickens and hens treated, the use of formulations based on b 1-3GPL increased the humoral response to vaccines and the productive performance and viability. A favorable behavior was observed even in birds subjected to variable management regimes. b1-3/1-6 D glucan in chickens caused the increase of IgAs and serum IgG. It demonstrates the positive effect of b glucans on immunity, health and productive character expression regardless the formulation developed, the application schema used and the species. From the experimental evidences of several research groups, a possible action mechanism supporting the results has been pointed out. The data presented demonstrate the potential of using b-glucan formulations in cattle and poultry.
