Abstract

SARRIA, Leonardo. Behind “un Ingenio de la Habana”. More about El príncipe Jardinero y fingido Cloridano. UH [online]. 2022, n.293  Epub May 11, 2022. ISSN 0253-9276.

Since the entrance speech of José Juan Arrom to the National Academy of Arts and Letters in March 1948, El príncipe jardinero y fingido Cloridano has been considered a work by the captain Santiago Pita, native of Havana, as well as an outstanding text of the Cuban literature in the period between 1700 and 1790. This article, on the contrary, argues that it is a comedy of the Siglo de Oro, written by the Spanish playwright Agustín Moreto.

Keywords : Agustín Moreto; Cuban literature of the Colony; Santiago Pita; Theater of Siglo de Oro.
