Abstract

DOMINGUEZ LOPEZ, Ernesto. Knowledge capitalism, transition and political contradiction in 21st-century United States. UH [online]. 2022, n.294  Epub June 01, 2022. ISSN 0253-9276.

The article proposes a study of the core structural transformations accumulated in United States between the last third of the 20th century and the crisis of early 21st century. It establishes that the latter corresponds to a transition between historical junctures, as part of the formation and evolution of knowledge capitalism in that country and the world-system. This includes the unfolding of an international division of labor and value chains that relocates manufacturing industries to peripheries and concentrates knowledge industries as central processes, with vast changes in social and economic structures. Contradictions and political crises, in particular the intensification of polarization and the upsurge of populism, are interpreted as components on the transformation of the political structure within the general transition.

Keywords : United States, transition; knowledge capitalism; crisis; populism; political polarization..
