Abstract

FUNDORA NEVOT, Geydis E. et al. Intersectional Approach to Equity in Higher Education - The Experience of Institutional Policies by FLACSO-Cuba. Rev. Cubana Edu. Superior [online]. 2019, vol.38, n.2  Epub Aug 01, 2019. ISSN 0257-4314.

On the principle of «Science and Teaching for Equity», FLACSO-Cuba, Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales -Latin American School of Social Sciences, headquarters in Cuba- set out to qualitatively change its commitment to social development. Until 2015, this higher education institution systematically dealt with gender and social inclusion. Afterward, in tune with the new public (local, national, and international) agendas, it set itself the goal of adopting an intersectional approach to equity in all its processes. A qualitative, mixed research was carried out, starting from systematizing this change to institutional policies, examining its outcome and effects, and identifying challenges and continuity. Major changes to the personnel, role and responsibility distribution, academic offer, scientific output, and political influence were examined, by adopting an approach to equity which combines gender, age, and skin color.

Keywords : development; inequalities; gender; inclusion.
