Nowadays, key skills are of great importance to training and therefore to teacher performance. This is why this study was aimed at determining what activities teachers carry out to enhance and assess key skills. Participating teachers were surveyed and interviewed for obtaining information. The results show that a low percentage of teachers carry out constructive learning activities in their classes with the specific goal of enhancing key skills. The University of Havana has published some documents which attach a great deal of significance to key skills. However, student teachers haven’t acquired them accordingly. Teachers acknowledge that their major weakness relies in creating instruments which properly measure this kind of skills.

Keywords : learning; teaching; strategies for assessment; teachers.
