Abstract

Nowadays, training highly qualified professionals poses a challenge to higher education institutions worldwide, with it being expensive and demanding a great deal of effort. This paper examines research, teaching, and training activities performed in Latin American higher education institutions in order to assess their efficiency. Major problems faced by these institutions to train highly qualified professionals are shown. They are associated with local circumstances and external influence, among others.
