The role played by emotional competence in success in one’s career is increasingly recognized. Emotional competence benefits workers, particularly health-care workers, in many ways. This is why employers are demanding high emotional competence of professionals to be hired. However, no enough attention is being paid to it in professional training, which causes a deep division between the demand for labor and training given to graduates to open up. In this research, the role played by science in understanding emotional competence in the process of labor market insertion of graduates in medicine, and nursing from the Technical University of Manabí is examined.
