Abstract

Internationalization, as a function of higher education institutions, generates debates and proposals among academics from different parts of the world. In the last five decades, China has managed to develop and consolidate higher education as part of its opening to the world and internal development. Within this dynamic and continuous process, internationalization has played a central role. The development of this function in higher education institutions requires a comprehensive analysis that establishes guidelines for its development. The objective of the article is to systematize the different conceptions that are being developed about this phenomenon in the country. It demonstrates the importance of this function as a space for Chinese universities and higher education institutions to be included in global processes from their identity and potential, achieving higher levels of development and quality.
