The essential relationship between higher education and economic development is increasingly strong, decisive and necessary, in order to achieve a growing economic development for society and the human being. The present material emphasizes this from a historical, social and cultural perspective, revealing the achievements and shortcomings that have marked this relationship, particularly in the People's Republic of China
