Abstract

BENOIT RIOS, Claudine Glenda. Orality in the Classroom: Perceptions of Teachers in Language Training. Rev. Cubana Edu. Superior [online]. 2021, vol.40, n.1  Epub Apr 01, 2021. ISSN 0257-4314.

This article examines the perceptions of 40 teachers-in-training on the production of oral genders and their relevance to students' cognitive development and future job performance. The research is of a descriptive nature and the information was collected through a questionnaire, which allowed both a qualitative and quantitative analysis. The findings refer, on the one hand, to the fact that the genre most worked on in school and university is oral presentation and that debate is the type of oral discourse that most favors students' cognitive development, given the possibility of issuing valid judgments, opinions and arguments for communication. On the other hand, the participants' perceptions are consistent with the existence of limitations such as time, the lack of teaching strategies of teachers and the unwillingness to implement orality.

Keywords : communicative competence; cognitive development; language skills.
