Abstract

This article discusses the teaching of a foreign language in Basic Education from a critical intercultural literacy perspective. Its objective is to understand the teaching of reading in English as a foreign language (EFL) in the Youth and Adult Education in Brazil from a critical and intercultural literacy perspective, main base of the entire study. Methodologically, it constitutes a bibliographic research with a descriptive-analytical approach, having as a procedure the conceptual presentation of relevant categories for teaching EFL reading practices. It is expected to promote a reflection on the importance of EFL reading practices from a critical-reflective point of view, allowing the student to resignify these texts to their realities as students and professionals.
