Oligogalacturonides are pectic oligosaccharides derived from the polygalacturonic acid. they have a high biological activity, which is closely related to their polymerization degree. This paper presents the general aspects involved for obtaining, identifying and characterizing oligogalacturonides. It also deals with the main methods currently used for oligogalacturonide identification and characterization, the capillary and gel electrophoreses standing out recently, as well as different effects they have on plants
