Abstract
FUNDORA SARRAFF, Teresa A; FERNANDEZ DELGADO, Norma; GRAMATGES ORTIZ, Anissa and LAM, Rosa M. Value of the T½ of Fe-59 in the differential diagnosis of polycythaemia vera and absolute polycythaemia of secondary cause. Rev Cubana Hematol Inmunol Hemoter [online]. 2003, vol.19, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2996.
The differential diagnosis between polycythaemia vera (PV) and the secondary absolute polycythaemia (SP) is very important in medical practice. In this paper, we propose ourselves to prove the usefulness of the calculation of the T1/2 of Fe-59 in the differential diagnosis between both diseases. It was found that the T1/2 of the average Fe-59 was lower in the PV group on comparing it with the SP group. The use of this ferrokinetic variable in the differential diagnosis between PV and AP allows to classify polycythaemia in a shorter period of time with the corresponding benefit for the patient, who may be evaluated faster and with a more rational use of the available resources
