Abstract

USTARIZ GARCIA, Catalino et al. Frequency of hepatitis B and C in adults with malignant hemopathies. Rev Cubana Hematol Inmunol Hemoter [online]. 2005, vol.21, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2996.

139 adult patients with malignant hemopathies, diagnosed and attended at the Institute of Hematology and Immunology, were studied. The frequency of the hepatitis B surface antigen (HbsAg) and the presence of hepatitis C antibodies (HcAb), as well as their relation to the diagnosis, time of evolution of the disease, treatment stage and transfusion of blood components, were investigated. HbsAg and HcAb were determined in all the patients by using the UMELISA-HbsAg and the UMELISA-HcAb kits. Of the patients studied, 13 (9.35 %) were positive to HbsAg and antibodies to hepatitis C were detected in 19 (13.67 %) for a total of 32 patients (23.02 %). The presence of HbsAg was not related to the previously mentioned parameters. It was proved the association between the presence of HcAb and the type of hematological disease, the transfusions and treatment stage
