Abstract
ARANGO RINCON, Julián Camilo; ARIAS SIERRA, Andrés Augusto and PATINO, Pablo Javier. Importance of the knock out mice in the study of the nadph oxidase system. Rev Cubana Hematol Inmunol Hemoter [online]. 2005, vol.21, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2996.
The superoxide anion produced by the NADPH oxidase system of the phagocytic cells is part of the reactive oxygen species involved in the defense against pathogenic microorganisms. Its importance is evidenced in the chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), a primary immunodeficiency caused by mutations in the genes that code the proteins of the NADPH oxidase system. The knock-out mice for some of the proteins of the NADPH oxidase system have allowed to understand the function of the ROS in the destruction of pathogenic microorganisms, the regulation of the inflammatory process, and the physiology of the NADPH oxidase system, It is expected that this class of animal models makes possible to attain advances in the understanding of the events included in the genic therapy for the CGD, of the paradigms about the role of the ROS in the defense of the host, and in the description of the signaling pathways involved in the activation of this system
