Abstract

HLA-G component is a class I non-classic molecule (Ib) from the Histocompatibility Principal System, adopting 7 isoforms as result of alternative connection of a same immature ARN; four of them are kinked to membrane (HLA-G1-G2-G3-G4) and the other three forms are soluble (HLA-GG5-G6-G7) with a a1 extracellular common domain. The first ones are expressed in the extravillous cytotrophoblast cells of placenta, epithelial cells of amnion, fetal endothelial cells and mesenchymal macrophages of chorionic villi and in epithelial cells of thymus medulla; and the second ones in amniotic fluid, in maternal peripheral blood and in umbilical cord. During pregnancy, the HLA-G molecules are expressed in an early way in trophoblast cells, maintained during the pregnancy and it is higher in the villous trophoblast. The HLA-G is associated with some complications in gestation, such as intrauterine infections, the pre-eclampsia and the spontaneous recurrent abortion where the HLA-G molecule is useful in pregnancy follow-up.
