Abstract

PEREIRA ROCA, Giovanna et al. Introducción de la determinación del colesterol inmune en la práctica investigativa de la aterosclerosis coronaria. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2000, vol.19, n.3, pp. 178-182. ISSN 1561-3011.

The objective of this paper was the mounting and standardization of a method for the evaluation of the low density oxidated lipoprotein contained in the immunocomplexes by the quantification of the total cholesterol present in the precipitate of polyethylenglycol denominated "immune cholesterol". The value of the "immune cholesterol" was compared with that of other lipid parameters in a group of normal subjects from the blood bank and 103 patients selected consecutively at random among those "pathological cases" attending the department of ischemic heart disease in the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery. They underwent coronary angiography as part of the study. It was observed that only the "immune cholesterol" correlated significantly with the severity of coronary atherosclerosis. The sensitivity and specificity of the method was 80% and the negative and positive predictive values were 84 and 76%, respectively. The concentration of "immune cholesterol" was lower in normal individuals that in patients with coronary atherosclerosis. It was concluded that "immune cholesterol" may be used as a new diagnostic marker in early stages of coronary atherosclerosis
