Some evidences of the participation of the oxidative stress in the HIV infection, in whose pathogenesis and evolution the reactive oxygen species may be involved, were reported. The formation of these species is a consequence of the occurrence of essential biochemical reactions that are normally balanced due to the existance of antioxidant mechanisms. The oxidative stress is produced by an unbalance between these processes that lead to the accumulation of prooxidants. Thats why many diseases have been connected with the oxidative stress.
