Abstract

GARCIA BACALLAO, Lourdes; ROJO DOMINGUEZ, Delia Mercedes; GARCIA GOMEZ, Luis Vicente  and  HERNANDEZ ANGEL, Maureen. Plantas con propiedades antiinflamatorias. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2002, vol.21, n.3, pp. 214-216. ISSN 1561-3011.

The behavior of various plants, whose antiinflammatory action is known by previous trials carried out with models of acute and chronic inflammation, is described. The phytochemical composition of these plants is also known and the relationship of their components with substances having an antioxidant activity is searched. Plants that are used as antiinflammatory agents in popular medicine are reported, too. It was observed that many of these plants with antiinflammatory activity contain flavonoids, tannins and other polyphenolic compounds, which are considered as antioxidant substances. It was concluded that there is a very close relationship between the phytochemical composition of antioxidant substances in plants and their antiinflammatory action.

Keywords : ANTIINFLAMMATORY AGENTS [therapeutic use]; ANTIOXIDANTS [therapeutic use]; PLANTS, MEDICINAL; PLANT EXTRACTS [therapeutic use]; MEDICINE, HERBAL.
