Abstract
BARCELO ACOSTA, Malicela; BORROTO DIAZ, Gerardo and RODRIGUEZ ALONSO, Héctor. Insulinorresistencia: correlación con la distribución de la grasa en el obeso. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2002, vol.21, n.4, pp. 228-234. ISSN 1561-3011.
50 obese patients were studied to determine insulin resistance and to make anthropometric measurements such as the body mass index and the hip/waist ratio. Insuline resistance predominated in android obesity, where 88.8 % had this complication. Only 31.3 % (n=10) of the genoid obese individuals were insulin resistant. Hyperinsulinism was evidenced in android subjects with values of insulin ratio of 5.4 ± 1.73 and of insulinemia at 2 hours of 158,72 ± 35.51 mUI/mL. These values were statistically higher than those of the genoid obese patients: 3.18 ± 1.41 and 98.5 ± 20.1 mUI/mL. It was also proved the greater correlation existing between hyperinsulinism and insulin resistance with the hip/waist ratio and not with the severity of obesity, categorized by different body mass index values.
