Abstract

As there are contradictory evidences on the genotoxicity of ozone, a review was made and the bibliography on this important topic of toxicology and the appraisals on this regard were also analyzed. Ozone is a reactive oxygen species and an important natural constituent of the atmosphere. There are numerous evidences and consensus about its toxic effects for human beigns and animals, specially for the bronchi and lungs when it is inhalated. However, many evidences have been also accumulated about the fact that this gas may have benefitial effects to treat several diseases when it is administered by other routes. That’s why, support has been given to the development of ozone therapy, and research on this topic is made in Cuba and in many other countries
