Abstract
ATIEZ SANCHEZ, Mirna; EDIGHILL VILLANUEVA, Valentina; FERNANDEZ-BRITTO, José E. and HERRERA VALDES, Raúl. Coronary atherosclerosis in deceased with terminal chronic renal disease in dialysis. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2010, vol.29, n.2, pp. 178-186. ISSN 1561-3011.
The dialysis therapy patients have high rates of atherosclerotic events and of cardiovascular mortality; the cardiovascular risk factors accounted for the high incidence of atherosclerosis complications in that population. A descriptive, observational of control-group and prospective research was made in 80 deceased, 40 with terminal chronic renal disease from 5 dialysis centers of Ciudad de La Habana between September, 2006 and March, 2007 and 40 deceased from the database of CIRAH (1989-2005) to determine the main features of the atherosclerosis profile of these patients and the major risk factors. The morphological and morphometric analysis of atherosclerosis lesions in coronary arteries was made using the atherometric system and the data were processed using statistical software. The deceased presenting with terminal chronic renal disease showed a predominance of affection from fibrous and severe plaques in the descendent anterior artery, as well as a worsening of lesions with the presence of cardiovascular risk factors. We conclude that the terminal chronic renal disease in hemodialysis has a significant role in the development process of atherosclerotic lesions.
