Abstract

MORENO MIRAVALLES, Myrna I. et al. Presence of atherosclerosis in postmortem examination deceased with ischemic heart disease and cerebrovascular disease: use of atherometric system. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2010, vol.29, n.2, pp. 187-193. ISSN 1561-3011.

A multi-arterial, pathomorphological and morphometric study of atherosclerosis using the atherometric system in 447 postmortem examination deceased divided into three groups according to the leading cause of death: 1- ischemic heart disease; 2- cerebrovascular disease, 3- of low atherosclerotic level to compare the distribution of the different atherosclerotic lesions in 19 arteries and to interpret the severity level that each of these diseases exerts on them. We noted that the variables representing the severity of atherosclerotic process reach high values of its mathematical measures in the ischemic heart disease group. Thus, we conclude that the deceased ones presenting with ischemic heart disease had a greater vulnerability for a more accelerated development of atherosclerotic process with predominance of severe plaques.

Keywords : Atherosclerosis; ischemic heart disease; cerebrovascular disease; low atherosclerotic level; atherometric system.
