Abstract

MONTESINO VALDES, Catalina. Comportamiento de la conducta suicida en el municipio pinareño de San Luis. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2004, vol.20, n.2, pp. 1-1. ISSN 1561-2961.

Suicide, besides being a drama for humanity, is also a health problem in many countries. For this reason, this study was conducted in order to describe the behavior of the suicide conduct in the municipality of San Luis, Pinar del Río, during the first semester of 2002. A descriptive, retrospective and cross-sectional study was designed and conducted that comprised the 17 individuals that committed or attempted to commit suicide. Due to the small size of the sample, it was decided to study.the total of persons and not to select a sample. These 17 subjects were classified according to age, sex, method used for suicide and the people's councils to where they lived. The health personnel working at the polyclinics where these persons received attention helped to collect the necessary information. This information was stored in a database created to this end. The results were expressed in percentages and absolute values. The most frequent suicide attempt was observed in young women that used psychotropic drugs. The most frequent suicide was observed in men over 60 that managed to do it by hanging themselves. The low relation between attempts and suicides suggest the existance of a subregistry in the notification of the first. The loss of potential life due to this cause is preventable. The nursing personnel plays an important role in the prevention and control of the suicide conduct.
