Abstract

LUNA VAZQUEZ, Laidés; VALIENTE DUANY, Mariela; ESPINOSA MARTINEZ, Enerides  and  GODERICH LALAN, José Miguel. Cumplimiento de los principios fundamentales de la Bioética por el personal de enfermería. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2004, vol.20, n.2, pp. 1-1. ISSN 1561-2961.

The nursing personnel should have a training that prepare them to solve moral conflicts appearing in the habitual practice, that facilitates the creation of balanced relations and that allow them to recognize the patient as a fundamental element of their work. A descriptive, retrospective and cross-sectional study was conducted in the surgery area of "Dr. Ambrosio Grillo Portuondo" Clinical and Surgical Hospital, in Santiago de Cuba, in order to analyze the fulfillment of the main principles of bioethics in the daily practice. The work was done in the first semester of 2001 and 110 nurses and 3 male nurses were included in the study. Age ranged from 25 to 35 and there was a predominance of the personnel working at open services. The bioethical principles of autonomy, beneficence, and justice, among others, were fulfilled in 100 %. The patients' rights, their decisions and preferences were respected and damages were avoided. The needs or problems identified in the individual registry were minimal and they were neither violations of norms, neither nursing unfulfillments, therefore, the quality of the attention given was not affected.
