In an analysis and review of literature it is possible to note what features linked to female gender are clearly present in the development of nursing profession and in qualities called for those performing it. Along history, the woman has been in a status of isolation, anonymity, subordination, and without any social power, socio-culturally influenced by rites, customs, and factors determining nursing entity and development. The aim of present paper was to approach the nursing historical development with gender perspectives, the main reason for a bibliographic review of this matter based on nursing history and of woman. We conclude that nursing historical development from the gender view-point confirmed that the historical milestones have allow that woman and nursing gain spaces in society and in the working field despite stereotypes linked to sex and to the housewife role.
