Introduction:

Research that deals with the likely changes undergone by the family network that has an elderly being affected - Stroke - stroke in elderly, describing the changes in the family context after the injury.

Objective:

Understand the reorganization of the family network after Stroke.

Methods:

A descriptive, qualitative study carried out at home by elderly dependent because vascular encephalic accident in Paulo Afonso / BA. Participated in semi-structured individual interviews with voice and previous script recorder support, thirty people who held the care of the elderly. We used the thematic content analysis technique for the treatment of the data.

Results:

The categories worked in this study were respectively entitled: Family Reaction (union of the family, lack of family unity); Change in family routine; There were no changes. It follows the family needs to reorganize within its dynamic to adapt to the new reality and embrace the dependent elderly after suffering the stroke, resulting in changes or not routine outside the context, thus suggesting a special attention from the health team, which must expand his gaze to the elderly and their family network.
