Abstract

Introduction:

Nurses, in their practice in primary care, have the challenge of developing care management, covering the different segments that structure the health setting.

Objective:

To describe the care management practices in primary care.

Methods:

Qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study. 13 nurses from basic health units in five municipalities in the northwest region of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, participated. Data were collected through interviews and thematically analyzed.

Results:

Four categories were identified: planning, organization, people management, and evaluation.

Conclusion:

The management practices developed by nurses contribute to the organization of the work environment and the quality of care in basic care.
