Abstract

CRUZ ALMAGUER, Aymara Yusimy; MEDINA GONZALEZ, Inarvis  and  AVILA SANCHEZ, Mario. Relationships between Risk Management and the Nursing Care Process for its Practical Integration. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2020, vol.36, n.2  Epub June 01, 2020. ISSN 1561-2961.

Introduction:

Since the last decade of the 20th century, patient safety and risk management have become one of the priorities for health systems in many countries worldwide. Several studies have shown the position of nursing in the identification of adverse events.

Objective:

To analyze the relationship between risk management and the nursing care process for its integration into practice.

Methods:

Systematic review and documentary analysis were carried out, which covered the years from 2010 to 2018. We defined criteria for determining the documentary sample and the search. Analysis and systematization parameters were established. Theoretical methods were applied.

Conclusions:

From the epistemological point of view, risk management for patient safety is implicit in the theoretical body of nursing and in its scientific method; the connection point of both processes is found in the staged system approach, while both present similarities in terms of objectives and implementation phases. Risk management carried out by these professionals has been developed from a reactive approach, in little relation to the regulations that regulate this process. The analysis allowed identifying risk points in the implementation of the nursing care process and which may affect patient safety. The scientific method in nursing was found to allow the integration of both processes, even when there’s, in need, a more specific update of care-associated risks.
