PEREZ BARRERO, Sergio; ROS GUERRA, Luis Angel; PABLOS ANAYA, Teresa  and  CALAS LOPEZ, Rafael. Factores de riesgo suicida en adultos. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 1997, vol.13, n.1, pp. 7-11. ISSN 1561-3038.

A descriptive population study is carried out in 833 adults more than 15 years old, from the No.3 office of the "West Bayamo" policlinic at Bayamo, Granma province, between November 1991 and October 1992, in order to detect the appearance of the following suicidal risk factors: chronic medical disease, psychiatric disease, backgrounds of treatment and entrance in psychiatry rooms, suicidal ideation, previous suicidal attempt, family backgrounds of suiciddal behaviour, and current conflicts. It is concluded that 39,1 % of the studied population had some suicidal risk factor. The most frequent suicidal risk factors among individuals were diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension. alcohol drinking, schizophrenia, backgrounds of psychiatric treatment, family backgrounds of suicidal behaviour, suicidal ideation, and previous suicidal attempt. Family conflicts and disputes between the couple, and a poor communication among the family members, were main controversial areas. Carrying out health actions to decrease such risk factors found, is recommended.
