BERDASQUERA CORCHO, Denis; SUAREZ LARREINAGA, Carmen Luisa; ACOSTA TABARES, Silvio  and  MEDINA VERDE, Norma Lidia. El Médico de Familia y el Programa Nacional de Control de la Tuberculosis. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2002, vol.18, n.3, pp. 195-197. ISSN 1561-3038.

An observational and descriptive study was conducted to identify the level of knowledge of family physicians in Guanajay municipality on the National Program of Tuberculosis Control and to determine the influence of knowledge on the fulfillment of the main indicators of the program during the first four months of the year 2001. To this end, a test, validated by experts in this field, was applied to 39 family physicians on the same day; it included aspects related to the objectives of the program, functions of the family physicians, disease surveillance, behaviour to be followed in a case of tuberculosis, treatment, classification of cases, requirements for sample-taking, foci control activities and health education measures. It was concluded that the level of knowledge on the National Program of Tuberculosis Control by the family physicians in Guanajay municipality was inadequate in most of the examined physicians and that the highest percentage of physicians fulfilling the evaluated indicators of the programs are the ones with adequate level of knowledge about this disease.
