MILIAN GERARDO, Yohandra; GALVEZ CABRERA, Elisa; PITA ALCORTA, Concepción  and  ROSALES DOMINGUEZ, Odalys. Risk factors for the consumption of street drugs. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2005, vol.21, n.5-6, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3038.

Aimed at describing the risk factors present among the consumers of street drugs living in Plaza municipality, a prospective, quantitative and qualitative study was conducted in a sample composed of 89 cases reported by the Compulsory Disease Declaration card and by the Technical Investigation Department from 2000 to 2003. An anonymous questionnaire was used that was complemented with a semistructured survey. It was determined that most of them were males, who started to consume these drugs when they were 10-l1. They were single and were neither working nor studying. They had a low index of stacking, high economic incomes and they were carriers of nervous disorders and disfunctional families. They were also smokers, common consumers of alcoholic beverages, and their parents consumed legal drugs. The areas with the highest figures of surveyed cases were Moncada and Corynthia.

Keywords : Risk factors; street drugs.
