Abstract

An experimental assessment of pyramidal energy: Implications for medical practice. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2007, vol.23, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3038.

The pyramidal energy-based treatment modality consists in placing patients or zones of their body under a pyramid. This procedure is attributed properties that allow to cure or alleviate different diseases. Out of the medical sphere, several utilities have been described, such as the recovery of discharged alkaline batteries. In order to assess the existence of that energy, which is of interest, taking into account the suggestions to use it from the therapeutical point of view, it was developed an experiment that as it did not involve patients, it did not have ethical objections. Its specific aim was to evaluate the potential effect of pyramids on the charge of alkaline batteries. 36 alkaline batteries partially or totally discharged were included in the sample and randomly distributed into 3 groups: one that was placed under the pyramid with adequate orientation, the other under a poorly oriented pyramid, and the rest at the open air.  Each battery’s voltage was measured with a voltimeter before the placing. Later on,   blind measurements were determined  at 10 and 20 days. The mean voltage of the initial  measurement within every group was compared with the further two measurements by using Wilcoxon’s test. The mean differences of the group under the well oriented pyramid were small, with a trend toward reduction, and they were non-statistically significant. The behaviour was similar for the rest of the groups. These results, together with the lack of a theoretical basis for the existence of such energy, made possible to conclude that the voltage of the batteries did not change under the pyramid. More generally, taking into account  other previously published assays, it was consolidated the idea that if the pyramids had some benefit for health, it would  exclusively be the result of the placebo effect they produce.
