Arterial hypertension is a medical problem of first magnitude, not only for its consequences, mainly cardiovascular complications (myocardial infarction), peripheral arteriopathies, stroke, nephroangiosclerosis, etc., but also for being very common in the elderly, among whom it is the main factor of cardiovascular risk. The family physicians are in charge of its early detection.
