Abstract

Introduction: home violence specifically against the Latin American woman became in past years in a serious medical, social and cultural problem requiring an urgent integral health care, encouraging authors to develop present research. Objective: to determine the behavior of home violence in women aged over 15 seen in the "Altos de Milagro" consulting room in Maracaibo, Zulia State from December, 2008 to December, 2009. Methods: a retrospective and descriptive study was conducted to characterize the behavior of home violence in the above mentioned consulting room using a survey designed by authors. Results: fifty one patients victims of home violence were seen with predominance of ages between 35 and 44 years. (39,21 %). The 58,82 % was accompanied and most of them suffered home psychological violence (100 %). The primary schooling accounted for the 39,21 % and 30 of the study patients belong to families with many members, with a great consumption of alcohol for a 58,82 %. Also, it was found that more than the 50 % of study patients suffered home violence, belonging to third-fourth decades of life and with low intellectual level. Conclusions: there was predominance of psychological violence, families with many members and in most of them the more frequent risk factor was the consumption of alcohol.
