Abstract

VIVES IGLESIAS, Annia Esther  and  NODA ORTEGA, Lisbeth. Renal failure in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2012, vol.28, n.3, pp. 309-320. ISSN 0864-2125.

The collagen or connective tissue diseases, as they have recently been classified, are immune-based diseases, particularly systemic lupus erythematosus. Their causes are very difficult to identify and these deseases cause variably encumbrances in multiple systems and organs. We report the case of a female 37 year- old patient diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus, who quickly and torpidly evolved to progressive chronic renal failure, and she died of this complication. Given the diversity of clinical manifestations, the primary care physician and other specialists can be viewed by the patient, so physicians must be able to suspect and diagnose this disease. The patient assessment should include a complete medical history, a thorough physical examination, and selected laboratory tests in order to determine the manifestations and the extent and degree of commitment of various organs.

Keywords : lupus erythematosus; progressive chronic renal failure; primary health care.
