Abstract

Introduction:
Anxiety and depression are frequent alterations in the aged adult. The management of these conditions is difficult. The work that is done in care homes is really rewarding because socialization is so strong that strong ties of friendship and a new perspective of seeing life are created. The psychologist in these institutions aims to assess their psychological state and interact in a group and individual way to rehabilitate them.
Objective:
To evaluate the levels of anxiety and depression in aged adults.
Methods:
A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out, in the period from June 2017 to March 2018, with a population of nineteen elderly people from Alegre Juventud Care Home in Los Palacios. They were applied the State-Trait Depression Inventory and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, as well as semistructured interviews, which also included the social worker in charge of their care.
Results:
Concerning anxiety as a state, the predominance accounted for 57.9% of the population; while for depression, predominance accounted for 100%. Regarding anxiety as a trait, predominance accounted for 100%; while for depression, as a trait, predominance accounted for 52.6%.
Conclusions:
There are average and high levels of anxiety and depression in the adults evaluated, which shows that the use MINFULLNES therapy could improve their quality of life based on these indicators.
