Abstract

MANZO RODRIGUEZ, Lidia; RIVERA MICHELENA, C. Natacha  and  RODRIGUEZ OROZCO, Alain R. Postgraduate education and its impact on the training of Latin-American professionals. Educ Med Super [online]. 2006, vol.20, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 0864-2141.

The postgraduate education in the sphere of permanent education demands a contextualized approach to find answers of a greater relevance related to the development of professional competences in the Latin-American countries. The copy or implementation of isolated experiences do not guarantee the solution of the educational problems of advanced studies at the universities. The essential aim of the present study was to assess the significance of this teaching level as a fundamental requirement for strengthening and maintaining the professional competences and, as a last resort, to increase the quality of the working activity. Professional upgrading and academical training are significant modalities of the postgraduate education, which characterize two different but complementary directions. The postgraduate education is a combination of teaching and learning processes aimed at guaranteeing the training of the university graduates to complete, update, and go deep into their own knowledge and abilities, linked directly to the professional practice, the scientific-technical advances, and the needs of the entities where they work. The authors make an assessment supporting the signficance of these advanced studies and the need to study thoroughly the particular didactics, which fix specific pecularities as a problematization process, where the profesor becomes a counselor that propitiates the learning situations so that the student constructs his knowledge and attains his goals.
