Abstract

Objective: to highlight the XXV anniversary of the foundation of “Carlos J. Finlay” Medical Sciences Detachment. Development: reference was made to the aspects forming its organizational basis to attain a uniform work and control of all the higher medical education centres, to the quantitative and qualitative results of the work developed, to the countries with which Cuba collaborates in the medical field, to the universalization of the university in the health system and to the enrolment of students in the course 2006-2007, the greatest in the history of university medical education. Conclusions: the development of the work done has been systematic, uninterrupted, consolidated and improved at every moment, but it had not been exempt of difficulties to carry out the activities due to the economic crisis and to the special period Cuba has passed through in the last years. The final balance of the work has been positive and it should be improved with the new ideas of the universalization of higher education
